Bolzano, Italy
What a beautiful surprise!
Our 6 day bike trip was to start in Bolzano Italy, and end in Verona. From reading guidebooks and everything we can get our eyes on online, we’d learned that Bolzano is quite different from the rest of Italy due to it’s proximity to Austria. We did notice more people with fair colored hair, and tongues that sounded much much different from what we had heard in Venice.
Bolzano is a lovely town to look at and wander about. The town center “Piazza Walther” was a lively gathering place, with lots of benches to sit and watch life go by. Plenty of well-preserved old buildings co-exist with newer, more modern architecture yet somehow it all looks perfectly cohesive.

So happy they were generous with bicycle parking!

Piazza Walther, Bolzano Italy. Perfect.
It rained on our second day in Bolzano, which seemed to add to the town’s charm. We had about 5 hours of bicycling ahead of us to get to the next town, and while we were discouraged at first by the rain, it didn’t take long before we got used to the wet bicycle seats and generally wet everything.
We wish we had more time to spend there. We will definitely be back.
