Visiting the Kravice Waterfalls from Mostar

From Mostar, we pointed the car south-west towards Ljubuški to visit the Kravice waterfalls. Sanel, our superstar host in Mostar did his best to draw us a map and I tried pretty damn hard to decipher it so I can be of some help to Abraham who is almost always driving. We eventually saw the sign that confirmed we were leaving Mostar (Moctap) and figured we we had at least one win.
It’s mid-June and it was a bit gloomy as we drove, but the roads were good, and the scenery was beautiful. The entire drive was supposed to take less than an hour, Kravice Falls can be an easy day trip from Mostar but we stopped twice to take in the gorgeous views and snap some photos. The road we took curved around and up the mountains, so for me, our photo stops were a welcome break from all the twisting and turning.
Two hours later we saw the sign. At this point of our trip and time spent in Croatia, we have gotten used to places having multiple names. It makes sense to somebody. We saw the sign for “Kravica” and accepted it as a close enough translation for the place we were looking for: Kravice.
From the parking lot, you have to hike to get down to the falls. From this distance we could hear its thunder, and after about 5 minutes walking on a path downhill, we saw our view of the falls.

Kravika Waterfalls
We passed other people on the well-maintained trail down towards the bottom of the falls, but the place was far from crowded. This place is amazing, roaring nature at its finest and it is almost empty.
We ordered some wine from the snack bar at the bottom of the falls. The sun had appeared at this point, so it was nice to have the option to sit in the shade and watch people determined to go for a swim. It was definitely too cold but I applaud their gusto.
I can’t think of a better way to spend the day. The Kravice Waterfalls is definitely one of nature’s beautiful wonders. It’s especially great that the grounds and surroundings are well taken care of, and that swimming is permitted. We didn’t even know it existed until we arrived in Mostar. So happy to have made the effort to visit this park. It ranks high in my list of favorite natural places.

Lots of little areas to play around the falls
