Ploče, Dubrovnik: oh the views
Dubrovnik so far is nothing short of magical. We know it’s been recently popularized by the HBO tv show Game of Thrones (we’re big fans ourselves), but after just a few days of exploring, we concluded that even without the hype from the show’s popularity, this town stands on its own as one of the best destinations. Sitting pretty as it juts out on the Adriatic Sea, Dubrovnik is blessed with nature, architectural beauty, and good weather.
We are in staying Ploče, our place is a steep climb from the old town, but it’s all worth it– the views are outstanding. It takes us about 15 minutes by foot to go down into the old town —the climb back up takes quite a bit longer, (get your legs ready) but as I’ve said, the views from this part of town are amazing.
In Ploče there is a Pemo market for groceries and goodies, a biker’s bar with a sick view, and “Yummmy” is a great little lunch spot with good burgers and cold beer. Mostly we’ve been shopping and cooking our own meals, the produce here is so fresh and I’ve found a new love affair with vegetables. Our apartment has a nice kitchen with everything we need to make restaurant quality dishes, and Abraham has been kicking ass with his meal inventions.
If you’re coming to see Dubrovnik, definitely try to see what the old town looks like from above. Of course, you can take the cable car for the view, but if you want to take in the sights of the city and look at the Adriatic Sea for longer than the ride’s worth, Ploče is a good place to start.
